For some time I have been trying to figure out a way to blend my two passions – writing and drawing. I found the above picture in my papers today and was taken over by its beauty.

I don’t remember where I got it from so can’t give credit to the original creator. But they say imitation is the best compliment you can give to an artist, so I tried to recreate it. Twice, in fact, changing the words each time.

The image is nowhere near as good as the original but I am happy with the first attempt.

I thought the writing around would be hard but it was super easy. I just needed to keep rotating the notebook.

I enjoyed the process so much that I went for the third one, this time finding another figure and word to match her pose.

I can say today has been super productive.

These images remind me of a poetic technique called concrete poetry where you write the words in the shape of the object you are evoking. It’s almost the flip side of these images. The words appear inside the drawing and form the drawing. Type ”concrete poetry” into your search engine and then click on the images button to see examples of this technique.

Thanks Stefan, for pointing out ‘concrete poetry’ to me. I am aware of those. I always thought, they were too difficult. But I will try them someday.

Beautiful image and writing Neera. I also love how you end the post by saying it has been a super productive day. I have been struggling for sometime now to write. I kept trying to find the reason behind WHY I want to write. Your last sentence reminded me that “just because it’s fun” is a good reason to write.

Thankyou you for reading the post and taking the time to write a comment. I have been equally enjoying your Instagram posts. Your eye for photography opportunities for food is amazing. Maybe that is what you need to concentrate on, telling stories with pictures.

It will be fun to do the blog with just pictures and a little bit of story. Remember Instagram doesn’t stay but the blog does.

Like, if you have “self-confidence” everything else will come by default. The problem is most people don’t have self-confidence. Whereas everyone has self-doubt. It is almost […]
