Travel is a big part of my present life. I will not let go of an opportunity to travel if I could help it.
More than anything else travel help us to be well-informed, understand life better, and become tolerant of other cultures.
Each time I travel I see the world with new eyes.
I am a big believer in Helen Keller’s philosophy, “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.” When we are at our most daring is when we feel the most fulfillment.
Travel opens our hearts and mind and makes us better people. I am heartened by the fact that more and more people are taking to traveling. Life experiences are by far more important than accumulating things.
Travelling is a must for writers. A writer travels:
To appreciate what the universe has to offer
To absorb the beauty of the world
To experience different cultures and learn from them
To see how much mankind has achieved
To learn history and geography by actually seeing it
To get in touch with herself/himself
To become a better storyteller
Colin Thubron, a travel writer and novelist, puts it so succinctly in his book ‘Shadow of the Silk Road,’
“Sometimes a journey arises out of hope and instinct, the heady conviction, as your finger travels along the map: Yes, here and here…and here. These were the nerve-ends of the world. A hundred reasons clamor for your going. You go to understand human existence in its primitive and through that develop an understanding of your own existence, your purpose, your own meaning. You go to encounter protean slopes of faith. You go because you are still young and crave excitement, the crunch of your boots on dust: you go because you are getting old and need to understand something before it is too late.”
And what is better than traveling is writing about your travels. When you write about the place you are visiting, you pay more attention, you listen to the stories more intently, you observe more keenly – with the eye or writer who wants her readers to have the experience she is having.
Here is the collection of posts I have written about my
recent travels. Hope they will inspire you to write about your own travels.
